How much weight can you lose on a colon cleanse?

Hi there, I’m going on a trip in a few months and I’m hoping to lose 15-20 pounds before I go. I’m not a bad eater, but I do have a little bit of weight I’d like to shed. I work out daily, yoga and swimming. My doctor suggested before I really start dieting to do a colon cleanse because I don’t go very often (if you know what I mean) But I was wondering if anyone has done a colon cleanse before and how much weight did you lose? I’m only really wondering because I’d like to know how much more pounds I need to shed after the cleanse to reach my goal weight. I did the “10 day master cleanse” last year and seen dramatic results but this year I’m not interested in starving myself. It was just too much for me.

If you are in fact quoting your doctor correctly, you should get another doctor. Colon cleansing has no benefit to your body. You colon is very able to cleanse itself though natural processes which, in a healthy person with no pathology, should not be disturbed. Check out these references.

If you eat a proper diet with the correct proportions of soluble and insoluble fiber, you should have no problems with your colon. Cleanses such as the Master Cleanse are gimmicks, fads, scams and should be avoided. Purging the color can only cause a loss of waste matter which will not result in any significant loss in weight and which will be replaced very quickly through normal digestion. If you have colon problems, ask to see a specialist such as a gastroenterologist.
